Instagram has unveiled a new feature allowing users to edit their direct messages up to 15 minutes after sending, aiming to help users correct typos or rephrase messages. Users can activate it by pressing and holding the message and selecting ‘edit’ from the drop-down menu. Once edited, the message will be marked as “edited” to inform the recipient of the amendment.
This functionality is reminiscent of Apple’s edit feature for iMessage, introduced almost two years ago. Additionally, Instagram is rolling out the ability for users to pin up to three message threads to the top of their inbox.
In addition, Instagram has extended the option to disable read receipts for all or specific chats. Turning off read receipts for all conversations can be done by navigating to account settings, opening “Messages and story replies,” clicking on “Show read receipts,” and turning them off. This feature has been in testing since November.
The platform also allows users to save their preferred stickers in direct messages (DMs) for convenient access. This can be done by pressing and holding the desired sticker. Once saved, these stickers will appear at the top of the sticker section.
These enhancements aim to improve Instagram’s messaging experience, potentially encouraging its user base to choose Instagram’s messaging services over rival platforms.
