Unlock phone. Launch Instagram app. Scroll through feed. See hilarious video. @mention your circle of friends in the comments section so they can enjoy the video too.
This is the norm for most users on Instagram.
The problem with this type of interaction is continuing a conversation around that subject. For a friend to respond to everyone in the circle, that friend has to individually start mentioning everyone previously mentioned and this gets tiresome as the conversation continues.
Another problem with this is keeping track of the conversation will be a mess as there will be other users mentioning their friends and holding their own conversations. This means that the conversation of your group gets lost in the noise.
Finally, and probably the most annoying, is how users can visit an uploaded photo and have an interaction about the picture while leaving the owner out of the conversation.
With a new update, Instagram has given users a way out with the addition of a simple feature. This feature acts like a sort of share button and shares the media in a private message on Instagram Direct. Users tagged in the conversation can easily interact freely with every member of the conversation getting notified even if not mentioned directly.
A genius move if you ask me.
