Instagram Now Supports Landscape and Portrait Images

Photo sharing app, Instagram has included support for landscape and portrait oriented images. Before now, Instagram restricted photo and video uploads to only images and video with square dimensions.

To upload a photo or video using a dimension other than the square one, you can tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of square. This is a feature that will be welcome for video uploads especially, as most videos are shot in landscape mode which could lose vital elements when cropped out to form the former compulsory square dimensions.

However, when viewing a profile, the image icons that show up will continue to show as square sized images. Clicking on a particular image or video will expand it to the original dimensions.

Instagram also updated the filters on their service to be the same for both picture posts and video posts. This means that intensity of filters can be adjusted for the videos as well.

You can find all these changes in the newly released Instagram version 7.5, available in both the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
