It is highly unlikely that you have not seen a Google Doodle. But if you have not seen it and you don’t know about it, here is the story behind it.
Doodles are the fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists.
As Google looks back at all the doodles of the year 2012, we would like to share our favourite Google Doodles of this year.
Of course, Google did a doodle to celebrate its birthday.
Google dedicated this doodle to the Swedish-American inventor of the ubiquitous zipper, Gideon Sundback. Honouring Gideon Sundback, the page unzipped to reveal a search engine results page on the engineer.

46th Anniversary of Star Trek’s 1st Broadcast – September 8, 2012
Alan Turing’s 100th Birthday – June 23, 2012
Mathematician Alan Turing is often considered the father of modern computing. During World War II, Turing worked as a cryptanalyst for the British government, helping crack several German ciphers. He later invented the Turing machine, which demonstrated a computer’s ability to perform computations using only binary digits.
Google marked the occasion of Turing’s 100th birthday with an interactive Doodle that offered users a dozen different programming puzzles.
Google doodled Eadweard J Muybridge’s (the man behind the first ever galloping horse moving image) 182nd birthday this year. The series of galloping horse images on the Google home page seemed to spring to life at the press of the play button.
