Infinix Introduces Note 60 Ultra Smartphone With Built-In Satellite Calls

Infinix has launched the Infinix Note 60 Ultra, its newest smartphone, which now includes satellite calling. This feature allows users to make calls and send text messages in areas without regular mobile network coverage. The phone was introduced at the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, a major technology event. This launch represents an important change in how smartphones connect, as more devices start using satellite networks to address “no signal” areas.

The standout feature of the Note 60 Ultra is its two-way satellite communication. Users can make voice calls and send SMS messages even without cellular coverage. Unlike previous satellite phones, which only supported emergency messaging, this phone supports full voice communication. This feature is useful for travellers, disaster response efforts, and people in remote areas.

The technology automatically switches between cellular networks and satellite when needed, so users don’t have to adjust settings manually. Satellite communication on the Note 60 Ultra operates at about 4 Kbps, supporting voice calls and short texts. Experts believe satellite connectivity could reach nearly two-thirds of the Earth’s surface, making it especially helpful in rural areas, oceans, deserts, and mountains where mobile networks do not exist.

    High-Quality Hardware and Design

The Note 60 Ultra not only supports satellite communication, but it also features many high-end specifications that put it in the flagship smartphone category.

    Key features include:

    • A 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate
    • A MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultimate processor built on a 4-nanometer architecture
    • A 200-megapixel main camera with Samsung’s ISOCELL sensor
    • A 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with optical zoom
    • A 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging
    • An Android 16-based XOS 16 operating system

The phone also features a design by the Italian automotive firm Pininfarina. This gives the device a motorsport-inspired look and includes a unique rear panel with a hidden notification display.

The Global Push for Satellite-Enabled Smartphones

The launch of the Note 60 Ultra is part of a larger trend in the smartphone industry toward satellite capabilities. This trend gained attention in 2022 when Apple added satellite emergency messaging to its iPhone 14. Other companies, such as Samsung and Qualcomm, have also explored satellite technology.

Most early versions only offered emergency messaging, not full voice calls. Infinix goes further by allowing two-way satellite voice communication. This makes it one of the first mainstream smartphones to include satellite calls as a regular feature, not just for emergencies.

    Why Satellite Smartphones are Important

Satellite connectivity is becoming more important for several reasons:

    1. Connectivity Gaps: About 2.6 billion people worldwide still lack reliable internet access, especially in rural or remote areas.
    2. Disaster Resilience: Satellite communication can keep networks running during natural disasters when cell towers may fail.
    3. Global Travel and Remote Work: As more people travel and explore, there is a growing demand for devices that can stay connected anywhere on Earth.
    4. Space-Based Internet Infrastructure: New satellite networks are quickly increasing coverage, making satellite communication more affordable and accessible.

Infinix’s Strategy: Innovation in the Mid-Range Market

Infinix is known for making affordable smartphones in emerging markets, particularly in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. With the new Note 60 Ultra, the company is moving into premium features by adding advanced technologies like satellite communication, high-resolution cameras, and AI software.

These devices will likely still be cheaper than flagship phones from Apple or Samsung. This approach may help Infinix compete better in areas where connectivity issues are common, especially in parts of Africa and Asia.

The launch of the Infinix Note 60 Ultra shows a trend in the tech industry: future smartphones will not depend only on cellular towers. Instead, they will connect through both traditional mobile networks and satellite systems to ensure global connectivity. If this technology continues to grow, we may see the end of “No Signal” messages on smartphone screens.
