India has a population in the hundreds of millions, and telcos are fighting each other to the teeth to dominate the Indian market.
Despite the presence of many telcom operators, Indian subscribers still have to deal with poor call quality and regular abrupt call drops.
Reliance Jio recently announced that it would be supporting voice and video call functionality over Wi-Fi.
The telco is the second largest in the country. It also announced that it has begun the process of rolling out the feature to all its subscribers in India.
It promised to have reached all 360 million of them before the coming week.

Third largest operator, Airtel, rolled out the feature in select parts of the country: Mumbai, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu . Airtel has over 260 million subscribers.
However for Airtel, users have to be subscribed to Airtel’s Broadband service to enjoy its calls-over-wifi feature, and only works on select smartphone models.
Neither company is charging users additional fees for this feature.
The calls-over-Wi-Fi feature are typically of better quality than traditional calls.
