With the IFA about to start tomorrow, Sony has introduced the Experia Z1 in its fight to be in the list of top three smartphones globally.
In a meeting with Bloomberg at the IFA yesterday, Dennis van Schie, Sony Mobile Communications sales chief. said that “Our ambition is to become a top three player.” “We are, right now, enjoying fantastic momentum in the markets where we play. We are breaking into the U.S.; we are building momentum in China.”
The company is currently not in the top 5 (according to data compiled by Bloomberg) and one wonders what it would have to do to break in the market dominated by Samsung. Overall Sony was the ninth-biggest mobile handset maker with a 2.2 per cent market share, up from 1.7 per cent in the previous year.
The waterproof Experia Z1 comes complete with a 5-inch display, 20.7 megapixel camera, detachable lens and real-time video streaming to Facebook. It also runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2.2 GHz quad-core CPU and is 4G-ready.
