After the release of Apple’s iOS 15 update, some users reported strange behavior on Instagram. If your iPhone’s ringer switch is set to silent, stories play with no sound. A new upgrade which rolled out last Friday seems to have fixed the problem.
Silent videos can seem like a benefit to your friends who love to add all the new songs Spotify has to suggest to their Instagram Stories, but the switch ought to work differently. The main purpose of silent mode is to control system sounds such as ringtones and text signals, rather than the sounds that the app hears.
Some users were able to repeat this action on their iPhones while running iOS 15 (prior to the update). For some customers, the problem first appeared during the public beta of the Apple software upgrade. It is unclear whether this issue affected users running prior versions of iOS, and Facebook did not confirm whether the issue was particular to the iOS 15 version. However, Apple did issue the following statement promising a fix:
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble hearing their audio in Instagram Stories. We’re working to fix this issue as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.“
The update is now available for download, and the problem has been resolved, at least on my device. After pressing the volume button, audio plays in Instagram Stories with the ringer turned off.
