Ice Prince could be Tidal’s first original star

On Sunday, one of the major internationally acclaimed rappers and entrepreneurs, Jay Z went on social media, Twitter to be specific, to drum support for his latest venture called Tidal.

In a series of tweets, 12 in all, Jay Z described what he called #TidalFacts to reveal information about the app and how it is performing in the market. In a rather interesting twist, he described Tidal as a global company and his cousin is already in Nigeria in search of great talents.

My cousin just moved to Nigeria to discover new talent. Tidal is a global company.

So I decided to search online for who this cousin is, and the Nigerian artist(s) that could be joining Roc Nation (probably) to save Tidal. So far, my best guess is Briant “Bee-High” Biggs, who Jay Z wrote about in Decoded and referenced on a number of tracks, including “Blueprint (Momma Loves Me).” For those who haven’t read Decoded, Jay explains how Bee encouraged him to stop hustling and start taking rap seriously. Bee managed some artists on Roc-A-Fella, before heading to Roc Nation where he is currently the director of mobile strategies. This really makes much sense now.

How I connected this to Ice Prince

Ice Prince was on Power 106’s The Breakfast Club where he revealed he’s been in talks with Roc Nation, all thanks to Bee-High. From the looks of his Instagram, he’s already met with Jay Z and co. But I won’t say that Ice Prince is a “new talent”. He may be new in Jay Z’s world though. Check out Ice Prince’s feature on Power 106 below.

Furthermore, another member of Roc Nation, Jay Electronica, announced he is in Nigeria.

Hello Nigeria! Your long lost son has finally returned home!

Few days later, Don Jazzy also shared a picture with Jay Electronica and he announced they are working together.

It is therefore interesting to watch the developments as they unfold especially as it affects Tidal and the owner’s interest in using artistes from Nigeria to promote the app as a truly global company.
