The patent was applied for in 2016 by IBM Corporation and it was approved and published in the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) database on the 11th of June 2019.

For a better appreciation of the device, Letsgodigital made a series of 3D renderings for illustrative purposes.

In the smartwatch mode, the device has a thick rectangular display which measures 2 x 3 inches. Stacked inside the thicker case are 7 additional display segments.

In the smartphone mode, the screen size is made up of 4 segments which measures 4 x 6 inches. In the tablet mode, the screen size has 8 segments measuring 8 x 6 inches.

It is not immediately clear whether whether the folding mechanism is manually activated, semi-automatic or fully automatic.

We dod not know IBM’s next step and whea this device will be available. But it is for certain that it is in the works
