The management of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Plc (IBEDC), has once again affirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted power supply during and after the 63rd independence anniversary celebration. This dedication to serving the public interest was encapsulated in a statement released by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Kingsley Achife, in honour of the nation’s Independence Anniversary.
In his statement as reported by Punch, Achife underscored the paramount importance of upholding the sacrifices and ideals of the founding fathers as the guiding principles for fostering unity and harmony in the country. He reiterated IBEDC’s mission to contribute to national development by delivering exceptional services and reducing the metering gap within its franchise area.
Achife assured the public that IBEDC has put in place a series of measures to ensure seamless service delivery throughout the public holiday period. The company is fully prepared to swiftly address any electrical faults that may arise during this time, emphasizing its commitment to customer satisfaction.
He stated, “Furthermore, the company’s customer care line (07001239999) will remain active to promptly respond to complaints and reports. The Management, therefore, urges motorists to exercise caution by avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol and adhering to traffic rules to prevent accidents involving electric poles and other hazards during the festivities.”
Additionally, IBEDC implored its customers to join the fight against energy theft, which encompasses tampering with meters or outrightly stealing electricity from the company, as well as avoiding any shortcuts in bill payment processes. Achife pointed out that such practices not only compromise the integrity of the electricity distribution system but also endanger the sustainability of the power supply and deprive the nation of vital resources for development.
However, Achife encouraged customers to take advantage of IBEDC’s hassle-free payment channels, including iRecharge, Quickteller, Payarena, Jumia, Watu, Buypower, and ATMs, to conveniently settle their bills and recharge their meters. To ensure customer convenience, IBEDC’s offices will remain open during the holiday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In July, the Electricity Distribution Company upgraded its prepaid meters, known as Token Identification Rollover, to make them work better and meet global standards. This upgrade was done to keep the meters running smoothly and ensure customer satisfaction. It was scheduled to start on August 1, 2023, by adding a global software update to the meters to make them work with the new TID Rollover protocol
