A South African edtech startup, HyperionDev has sealed $3.5 million in Series A funding to expand its services beyond the African Continent. The startup’s headquarters is based in Cape Town’ and it offers online courses in computer science and this has allowed individuals irrespective of their location to take coding courses through their PPCs or mobile phone.
It was founded in 2012and tech giants like Google and Facebook previously backed up the company and it was able to raise funds through a crowd investment platform, CrowdCube.
The founder and chief executive officer, Riaz Moola, stated at the new investment fund “This incredible milestone will directly benefit thousands of students across the globe seeking for an affordable and accessible way to learn job-ready, practical developer skills in months rather than years. In the past 12 weeks, we have welcomed over 1, 5000 new stakeholders.
Riaz stated that the edtech startup will deploy the fund to expand its offering into the United States and the United Kingdom markets against the backdrop of its success on the African continent.
Since its launch in 2018, HyperionDev has seen a 640 percent revenue growth while it records a 254 percent growth in active users during the Coronavirus lockdown.
Riaz further explained that the edtech startup coding boot camps offer a leeway to close the increasing gap in global skills, and also stated that the new investment will drive the startup’s mission to fulfill its global expansion plans.
HyperionDev offers courses in web development, data science, and software engineering.
