Huawei has been awarded a major contract by the Togolese government to connect 500 public buildings to optic fiber. Facilities to be connected include hospitals, universities, airports, and ministries.

Togo government said it is engaging Huawei to lay 200km of cable, and the project will be financed by funds gotten from Exim Bank of China.

Commenting on the project, Huawei West Africa vice president Shi Weilang said: “Togo is only connected to one undersea cable while Benin is linked to two, Ghana to six and Nigeria to ten.”

According to him, it was necessary for Togo to increase its offer to gain speed and capacity.

The project is expected to increase efficiency for a positive impact on the country’s social and economic development, especially by speeding up citizens’ administrative procedures.
