Chinese tech giant, Huawei, has unveiled its new foldable phone named the Mate X2. The is the second iteration of its foldable series following the first device, the Mate X, launched in 2019.
Due to the ongoing trade restrictions between Huawei and the US, the Mate X2 will launch without support for Google’s apps or services. The device will also launch with Huawei’s mobile operating system called HarmonyOS. The US put Huawei on a blacklist which restricts US firms from exporting technology to the Chinese company.
All the above reasons may affect the device appeal outside China.
The basic features of the device are summarised below:
- Dimensions: Height (161.8 mm) X Width (Unfolded: 145.8mm, Folded: 74.6 mm) X Depth (Unfolded: 4.4mm ~ 8.2mm, Folded: 13.6 mm ~ 14.7mm)
- Weight: Approx. 295g (including the battery)
- Display – Screen Size: Interior screen: 8 inches , Exterior screen: 6.45 inches
- CPU: Huawei Kirin 9000
- Operating System: ENUI 11.0 (Based on Android 10)
- Memory: RAM + ROM (8 GB RAM + 256/512 GB ROM)
- Battery: 4500 mAh
- Camera Setup:
- Rear Camera – 50 MP Ultra Vision camera; 16 MP Cine Camera; 12 MP Telephoto Camera; and 8MP SuperZoom camera
- Front Camera – 16 MP Selfie Camera
Available in four different colours – Crystal Blue, Crystal Pink, White, Black, the Mate X2 will be available in China on February 25th, with 256GB of internal storage for ¥17,999 (around $2,785) or for ¥18,999 (around $2,940) with 512GB of storage. No date was given when the device would be released outside China.
It would be tempting to compare the Mate X2 with the Samsung Z Fold 2 and we would be doing this pretty soon when the phone is available.
