Huawei has started accepting applications for the Kenya’s Seeds for the Future Programme 2024. The programme is intended to nurture local Information and Communications Technology (ICT) talent, promote knowledge sharing, and boost enthusiasm in the technological field. Huawei began accepting applications last week and is expected to conclude the application process on April 30th.
The programme functions as a part of Huawei’s global corporate social responsibility initiatives. In the past nine years, the programme has managed to provide virtual training to over 240 Kenyan students. Out of these students, 47 had the opportunity to visit China for an additional two-week of training at Huawei headquarters, where they explored Chinese culture and learned about the latest technological advancements.
During the 2024 programme, the Seeds for the Future initiative will return to its physical format. Huawei will introduce participants to emerging technologies such as 5G, cloud computing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to the organization, participants will get a chance to interact with global IT professionals and receive a certificate of programme completion.
Participation eligibility requirements include a 3.0+ GPA (B or higher) or ranking in the top 30% of their faculty, an interest in the ICT field, and an enthusiasm for telecoms and technological advancements. However, Huawei has clarified that participation in this programme does not guarantee employment with the company post-graduation.
The programme is a joint initiative of Huawei and Kenya’s Information and Communications Technology Authority. As an added incentive, the top ten outstanding students in the Seeds for the Future programme will get the chance to visit Huawei Africa’s regional headquarters in South Africa for mentorship.
