How would you as the CEO of Showmax address the invasion of Netflix into Africa?
Last year, Naspers’ Showmax launched in South Africa in anticipation of the invasion of Netflix into Africa. The information in the market was that Netflix was coming at the end of 2016 but voila, it is here in January.
Showmax is only available in South Africa and Netflix is all over the world including South Africa. Netflix is the world’s leading Internet television network with over 70 million members in over 190 countries. Netflix’s catalogue is bigger than Showmax.
Showmax has consists of 750 titles of 850 complete seasons over 19 000 episodes, over 11 000 hours of viewing time while Netflix has more than 125 million hours of TV shows and movies per day, including original series, documentaries and feature films.
