There are a number of different ways to send and receive media from your Android device. Okay, but what if you want to transfer an app from your phone to another Android device? Android makes it possible to send apps directly from your phone to another user’s device, eliminating the need to send them a link to the app in the Play Store.
In order to transfer apps between two Android gadgets (smartphone or tablet), you can use either Play Store or the Google Files app. Both approaches are described in depth here in this article.
USING THE PLAY STORE TO SHARE APPS BETWEEN YOUR ANDROID DEVICES
Play Store is the quickest and most convenient way to transfer apps between Android devices. The app makes use of the Nearby Share function, which is present on all Android 6.0+ devices (You can find your device’s Android version number, security update level, and Google Play system level in your Settings app). With this method, you can share more than one app at the same time. The following steps explains how to.
- Open up Play Store on the phone from which you want to share the app.
- Tap the profile icon in the top-right corner and select ‘Manage apps & device.’
- Under the Overview tab, tap the Send button next to Share apps. Thereafter, you’ll be able to view all of your phone’s apps in one place. The sort option allows you to arrange these apps in a specific order, such as by name or by size.
- Select the apps you want to send by checking their boxes and clicking the send button.
- Now, on the device you wish to send to, launch Play Store and navigate to the ‘Manage apps & device’ section (refer to the steps above). Next, select Receive under Share apps.
- Once the recipient’s device appears on the sender’s screen, you can choose it to complete the transfer. As a result, a request to share will be sent to the chosen device.
- A four-digit code should appear on the receiving device that is identical to the one on the sending device. To begin transferring apps, tap the Receive button.
- Once the app has been successfully transferred, you can begin installing it by selecting the Install button. If you’re trying to install multiple apps, you can do them all at once using the “Install all” option.
- Finally, on either device, tap the Disconnect button in the upper right corner, and then tap it again to confirm.
HOW TO USE THE “GOOGLE FILES APP” TO TRANSFER APPS FROM ONE ANDROID DEVICE TO ANOTHER
The Google Files app also allows you to transfer apps between two Android devices. It allows you to share your apps’ apk files over Bluetooth, Nearby Share, Quick Share. It is always already installed on your Android device, but if it isn’t, you can get it from the Google Play Store. The recipient’s device doesn’t even need to have the app installed.
Once you’ve downloaded Google Files, you can follow these instructions to start sharing your apps with others.
- Open the Google Files app on the phone from which you want to share the app.
- In the Browse tab, tap on Apps.
- Under the Installed apps tab, locate the app you want to share. Tap the three-dot menu icon next to it and select Share.
- If you want to share multiple apps at once, tap the three-dot menu and choose Select. Then, use the checkboxes to select apps and tap the share icon in the top right corner.
- In the share sheet menu that opens, select your preferred sharing option. You can share your app using Bluetooth, Nearby Share, or a third-party app.
- On the receiving device, tap the received apk file and select Install.
- Installing the apk file from a third-party app may prompt a notification about installing unknown apps. So, head on over to the Settings menu and flip the toggle next to the app’s name. The apk file can then be used to successfully instal the app.
Conclusion
Using Play Store to transfer apps between Android devices should be easy if both devices support Nearby Share. And yet, the Google Files app makes app sharing a breeze. Check out both options and tell us which one you prefer to try.
