Starting with smartphones on Android 10, you can share your WiFi password with anyone nearby using QR codes. It beats having to remember long WiFi passwords and also having to tell them the passwords.
This is how it works:
Create a QR code on your Android 10 smartphone
- Go to Settings on your smartphone
- Click on Connections
- Click on Wi-Fi
- Go to the Wi-Fi network you want to share and click on the gear beside it
- At the bottom left of the page, you will see the QR code.
- Click on the QR code and it will open up a large image of the QR code. Under the QR code, you will see a message saying “Scan this QR code on another device to connect to “WiFi Name” without entering password
Scan the QR code
The person who wants to copy the Wi-Fi password will have to do the following:
- Open the Android’s camera app
- Position the camera viewfinder over the QR code
- A message will come up saying, “Tap here to connect to the Wi-Fi “Name” network.” This will showcase the name of the network below the QR code.
- Just tap to join the Wi-Fi network
You can also scan the QR code on an iPhone and iPad running iOS 11.
