Are you a Telegram user looking to better organise your large group chats? You’re in luck! Telegram has feature called ‘Topics’ that allows admins to create separate sections for discussing specific subjects within large groups. Topics function as individual chats within the group, and according to Telegram, members are free to chat in any topic. This handy feature will help you streamline conversations and make them more manageable. Let’s dive into how to use Topics in your large group chats!
- Check if your group is eligible: First and foremost, your group must have over 200 members to enable the Topics feature. If your group meets this requirement, you’re good to go!
- Enable Topics: To enable Topics in your group, tap the group icon in the top right corner and select ‘Edit’ on the group info screen. If you’re using the latest version of Telegram, you’ll find the ‘Topics’ option below ‘Reactions’. Toggle it on, and you’re ready to create Topics.
- Create a Topic: As an admin, tap the three dots in the top-right corner and select ‘New Topic’. Enter a title for the Topic and tap ‘Create’. Don’t forget to send a message to kick off the conversation!
- Set group Permissions: Admins can also decide who can create and manage Topics by adjusting the group Permissions settings.
- Choose your view: Members in a Topics-enabled chat can view messages in two ways – ‘View as Topics’ (which divides the chat into separate Topics) or ‘View as Messages’ (which displays all messages in chronological order like a regular group chat). Choose the one that suits you best!
And that’s it!
With the Topics feature, you can now organise and navigate large group chats with ease. Keep in mind that this feature is currently available only for large groups, but Telegram is working on tools for smaller groups as well. In the meantime, if you want to try out Topics and don’t have a large group, consider joining public groups to see the feature in action.
