Twitter has been off and on with verifying its users. The microblogging firm said the last time that it paused on new applications in order to improve “the application flow and review process. Interestingly, it has again re-launched the process 30 days after its last suspension.
For those who are looking to get verified on Twitter, here is how to go about it.
First, Who can be verified on Twitter?
To be verified, your account must be notable and active. The six types of notable accounts are currently verified:
- Government
- Companies, brands and non-profit organizations
- News organizations and journalists
- Entertainment
- Sports and esports
- Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals
To receive the blue badge, your account must be:
- Authentic,
- Notable
- Active.
Ineligible accounts
Certain accounts are ineligible for the blue badge, regardless of the above criteria, including:
- Parody, newsfeed, commentary, and unofficial fan accounts;
- Pets and fictional characters, unless directly affiliated with a Verified Company, Brand, or Organization, or with a Verified entertainment production, as described above;
- Accounts engaged in severe violations of our Platform manipulation and spam policy, such as the buying and selling of followers and engagement; and
- Accounts of individuals or groups associated with coordinated harmful activity, or hateful content as defined in Twitter’s Ads Policies, or that have been found to have committed gross human rights violations by an international court/tribunal, or a fact-finding mission or commission of inquiry authorized by an international organization, may be ineligible for Verification – even if their activity on Twitter doesn’t violate the Twitter Rules.
Loss of Verification Badge
You can lose your verified badges auto]matically if your account is inactive and incomplete. A complete Twitter account is defined as one with all of the following elements:
- either a verified email address or phone number
- a profile image
- a display name
To get verified
You can no longer apply via a form to be verified on Twitter. Users may now apply for verification by going to their Settings > Request Verification. If you do not find request verification, you have to keep checking as your account is not ready to be verified.
