There are many of us who use Google Drive as our modern hard drive. It is a safe place where we keep notes, important documents, pictures and audio files. But like traditional hard drives, storage space is unlimited and the lack of space can be a real problem.
When you sign up, Google gives you free 15GB of storage for everything associated with your account. This includes content related to Gmail, Google Drive, and any Google Photos saved after June 1. Needless to say, data was collected quickly.
You can check the current status of your storage by visiting this page and clicking this, you can purchase an additional 100GB of storage for $ 2 per month. But it may not be necessary to cuff out money for this purpose. Instead, you can clear out the clutter from your storage without dropping a dime.
Remove Unwanted Files Out Of Google Drive
1). When you follow this link, you will see a list of all the files on your hard drive sorted by size with the largest at the top. Check to see which of them has the largest size and delete the ones you no longer need.
2). Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of your hard drive, select Settings, then Manage Apps.
3). For all applications with hidden data records, click the gray Options box on the right and select Delete hidden app data.
Sometimes apps connected to Google Drive storage have hidden data, but the data is erased in just a few clicks.
Open the Trash folder and click the Empty Trash link at the top of the page.
Free Up Space In Google Photos
If you keep your photos at their original size, you can free up a lot of space by converting them to Google’s “High Quality” option, which compresses images to 16MP and videos to 1080p.
1). Select High Quality (Unlimited Free Storage) in the Photo Settings page.
2). When you make this choice, you will be asked if you want to switch to a “high quality” format and compress your existing photos. If you don’t want your photos to be compressed, click the Learn how to keep the original files link for instructions on how to save those photos to your device.
Tackle Email Clutter
You might think Email doesn’t take up much space, but guess what? Many of your attached documents in your Gmail are things you really do not need. But there’s a way to tackle this challenge;
1). At the top of the Gmail website you will find the search box. Type “has:attachment larger:10M”.
2). Detect and remove all the emails with one-time attachments. (Unfortunately, there is no good way to delete an attachment without deleting the email associated with it, but you can always email yourself again before leaving the original and manually delete the attachment.)
3). Navigate to the Spam folder and click on the “Delete all spam messages now” link.
4). Go to your Trash folder and select “Empty Trash” to delete everything forever.
