How to Extend “Undo Send” Feature in Gmail Just To Fix Any Errors

As someone whose work involves sending lots of emails, there are times when you realise a mistake or two after you have hit “Send” or perhaps hit “Reply all” while responding. Maybe the tone used while writing the mail isn’t right, and in the worst case was sent to the wrong contact.

This is where the “Undo” function comes in handy, which looks like a saviour. However, this awareness does not always happen immediately. Sometimes it takes users a little longer than the standard 5-second Gmail window to notice the error.

Fortunately, there is a way to increase the window to 30 seconds in Gmail and 10 seconds in Outlook, and you’re about to understand how it works.

The ability to undo a particular email after sending can also be termed Delay function. Typically, email clients wait some time before sending a message after you have clicked the “Send” button. For example, if you set the “Undo” feature to 10 seconds, the email client will wait 10 seconds before sending the email.

How to Extend the “Undo Send” period in Gmail

1). Tap the gear icon. This is located at the top-right corner of your Gmail web version.

2). Tap on the tab Settings label.

3). Next, go down to the “Undo Send” section and choose a 30 second Undo period.

4). You must scroll down the page to save your changes. Otherwise, the new settings won’t work.

Every you click the “Send” button, there’s always a drop-down option in the lower left corner to “Undo” your email. This period will be set to default once you’ve set it to. It will also be available in the app version. If you want, you can click on “Undo” and you’ll be brought back to your email draft.

Once set, Gmail has a waiting period of 30 seconds before it can deliver the email to the recipient. G Suite also has this feature. So if you choose to read an email quickly after you’ve sent it, you’ll have enough time to check the email to make sure there are no mistakes. If not, Undo Send.
