How To Block Ads On Android Smartphones

While many websites rely on revenue from impressions and clicks of banner ads, some of these ads are annoying and in some cases act as malwares. Most of them are set up as fake pop-ups, while others are displayed as videos loud enough to even disturb the people around you. In fact, the ads are so disgusting that even Google itself was forced to develop its own Ad blocker and integrated it into Chrome for Android.

Block pop-ups and ads in Chrome

Fortunately, there are several ways to block ads on Android, and some of them only require minor changes to your Chrome browser settings.

Pop-up and ad blocking in Chrome should be enabled by default. So, if you see annoying ads while browsing, make sure this feature is disabled. To do so, follow the steps outlined below.

    • Look for Settings on your Chrome browser.
    • On there, locate the Site Settings on the menu and click on it.
    • Scroll down to select the “Pop-ups and Redirects” option.
    • Tap on the slide to disable pop-ups on a website.
    • Next, after the “Pop-ups and Redirects” options in the Site Settings is “Ads”. Click on it.
    • Tap on the slider, so that Chrome can disable some ads that are considered “intrusive.”
Install An Ad Blocker Extension Or Use A Browser With Ad-Blocking Capabilities

The Chrome ad blocker is more of a temporal solution and does not prevent all ads from showing on the websites you visit. This means that the small banner ad will continue to display normally. However, pop-ups, large advertisements and powerful video ads no longer appear on your screen while browsing.

Of course, if you want to get rid of ads completely, there are other options you can try to make your Internet experience more pleasant. One is to download ad blocking extensions for Chrome. Two ad blocking extensions you can download for Chrome include AdBlock and Adblock Plus. Using one of these, and not Chrome alone, should remove more annoying ads more effectively.

Secondly, is to just use another web browser with its own integrated ad-blocking features. For example, Samsung Internet gives you the option to add an extension that completely blocks ads from showing in your browser. Some of the options available on Android include Opera, and even Adblock has its own stand-alone web browser.

    Conclusion

Now you know how to block ads on Android. Annoying or harmful banners and pop-ups don’t disappear from the internet, but there are many things you can do to protect yourself from their effects in order to improve your browsing experience.
