Late Friday, Lagos was the focus of startups and Africa’s tech developers’ industry as 5 of the continent’s leading apps took to the stage to battle for the hearts of those that attended the 2015 Mobile West Africa Conference.
I sat in the hall and watched as apps developers and innovators from different fields attempted to sell their innovations to the rest of us. Even though 5 products were showcased, four of them were from Nigeria while only one, Suba app, was from outside the country – Ghana to be specific.
Interestingly, Suba app was announced winner.
Even though the app was presented just like the other four, I don’t really think others had the same opportunity like Suba did. Take for instance its appearance on the banners, screens and printed materials at the conference. It had a stand and was announced the official album for MWA2015.
Furthermore, Suba app was incubated at Ghana-based MEST Incubator – another MWA2015 partner. MEST also showcased Suba as its only project at its stand which is in partnership with Samsung!
This however doesn’t mean the app does not deserve to win. No. Rather, it just proved to show that those behind (and those supporting) the app came to MWA2015 with a much stronger game plan than the rest.
