Consider the following.
According to the CIA World Factbook, Nigeria’s population was estimated at 181,562,056 in July 2015 (last available update). According to the NCC, there were 148,495,205 active GSM lines at that time. If you assume one line per person, that’s about 82% penetration. But let’s allow for double simming and take the number down to 75%. That’s of TOTAL POPULATION.
The one thing we all know about Nigeria is how young our population is. In fact, the World Factbook estimates that 43% of the population is under 14.
While, of course, there are children younger than 14 with mobile phones, it’s likely that the 103 million people over the age of 14 are the most likely users of mobile telephony. 148 million active lines vs 103 million people. I’ll let that sit.
Now.
Add 93,403,147 active mobile internet subscriptions in July 2015.
Is there any other channel that offers that kind of reach?
This is just one reason you need to join Ehi Binitie, Oje Ojeaga, Agatha Emina and I at SMW Lagos as we discuss Storytelling on the First Screen.
