A user’s phone number can go into call forwarding or divert when he or she has activated it with or without notice. It could also be that someone else did or maybe an error from the network provider.
To stop call forwarding or diverting isn’t as difficult as most people think and by the end of this guide you will be able to deactivate it on your Android phone or anyone’s.
How do I know when my call is being ‘forwarded’ or ‘diveted’?
The most common way to know if your calls are being diverted or forwarded is when a lot of people are complaining that calls to your mobile number keeps sending a notification which says “Forwarding all calls” or if the caller hears “Please wait while your call is forwarded” from the network provider.
It could also be that persistent calls tells the callers that your mobile number is unreachable or you have mistakenly activated Call Forwarding on the settings on your phone.
Turning Off Call Forwarding on your Android Device
The process to deactivating Call forwarding is easy, though the procedure is different for Android phones. The methods outlined in this article have been tested using the official Google Phone app.
Some Android phones have the Phone app pre-installed. You may be able to download the Phone app if your phone doesn’t come with it.
To download the Phone app, you need a compatible phone that runs Android 9 or higher. If your phone isn’t compatible, you won’t find the Install button in the Play Store.
Step 1: Open the “Phone app” software, and tap the 3-dot button at the top-right corner.
Step 2: Go to “Settings” and select “Calling Accounts”.
Step 3: Select the SIM card you want to cancel the call divert on.
Step 4: Tap “Call forwarding” and you’ll see the different options, which are, “Always forward”, “When busy”, “When unanswered”, and “When unreachable”.
Step 5: Choose the option you want to disable, then tap TURN OFF on the screen. If all the call forwarding categories are active, disable them one by one until you’ve turned off everything.
So long as you have an Android phone, you can use the above steps to stop call forwarding or divert, regardless of the network service provider you use.
Turning Off Call Forwarding using shortcodes
The following shortcodes can be used in place of the Android Phone app’s settings to disable call forwarding for specific network providers.
Keep in mind that if your phone supports two SIM cards, you must dial the shortcode associated with the affected SIM card in order to permanently disable call forwarding.
MTN shortcode: ##002#.
Airtel shortcode: ##002#.
Glo shortcode: ##002#.
