The Tony Elumelu Foundation officially released the list of 3,050 African entrepreneurs selected for the 2019 cohort of the Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme. The Foundation began accepting applications for the fifth cycle of its Entrepreneurship Programme in January this year
The applicants were selected out of the 216,000 submitted applications from 54 countries representing 58% male, 42% female.
This year, unlike the previous years, witnessed three times the usual number due to the partnership from corporate organisations and government such as ADB and ICRC.
List of other partner sponsors include:
- Africa Development Bank (ADB) sponsoring 1,000 entrepreneurs,
- International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) sponsoring 180 entrepreneurs,
- The Republic of Benin will empower 5 citizens with $200,000,
- Government of Botswana sponsoring 20 entrepreneurs,
- Anambra State sponsoring 15 entrepreneurs from the state while
- US Consulate sponsoring 20 entrepreneurs.
On July 26 and 27, the selected entrepreneurs will gather at the TEF Entrepreneurship Forum, the largest annual gathering of African entrepreneurs on the continent.
