The Cyber Security team at Kenya’s ICT ministry were on Monday treated to an unpleasant surprise when a hacker group identifying itself as the Kurd Electronic Team: W4r10k, took over several state websites, defacing them and disabling most functionality.
The websites hacked include the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) website, National Environment Trust Fund, the Department of Planning and the National Development Implementation Technical Committee, National Youth Service, Department of Petroleum, Refugees Affairs Secretariat at Immigration, the Kenya Meat Commission and the Lake Basin Development Authority.
The hacker(s) left behind a calling card consisting a series of incomprehensible text on the site and their logo.
In so doing, they interfered with the websites’ functionality.
