Guinness Nigeria Plc on Monday unveiled the world’s largest jersey in the colours of Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The unveiling is part of the company’s efforts to drum up support for the Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
The jersey, with a size of 275.5 by 249.9 square meters, is the largest jersey in football history.
Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, who was represented on the occasion by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Dr. Abiola Awonuga, expressed confidence in the ability of the Eagles to emerge victorious in South Africa.
The governor, while praising Guinness Nigeria for their huge investment in Nigerian sports, also commended the company for boosting the support base of the Eagles.
“We are pleased to support Guinness Nigeria Plc in their quest to boost the Super Eagles’ dream of lifting the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa,” he said.
Guinness Marketing and Innovative Director, Mr. Austin Ofomba, said the jersey would be preserved for historical purpose.
He said, “The jersey will be transmitted to the Eagles. It’s going to be preserved because it is a big monument for us. We’re going to celebrate this jersey beyond the Nations Cup and I believe Eagles will continue to fly.
“For seven years, we have been the official beer of the Eagles. We have showed our commitment towards building the team into a world brand.”
