Uber is finally allowing riders to tip their drivers which these drivers have been campaigning for years. However, for now, tipping is only available across the U.S. by the end of July even though the ride-sharing company has initially made tipping available in the US cities of Seattle, Minneapolis, and Houston.
For the three cities, Drivers were asked to download the latest version of the Uber app and tap “receive tips”. Then, when riders rate their driver at the end of a trip they will be asked whether they want to add a tip. They can add $1, $3, $5, or a custom amount of their choosing.
This is a huge U-turn from its initial stand which was completely against the very idea of tipping and the reason for this change may not be unconnected to the exit of Travis Kalanick.
There’s no information yet on when the tipping option will be available in other countries but we can assure that it is soon. Regardless, tipping remains optional.
The question is will you tip your Uber driver.
