Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out and I just want to break down the post credit scenes. And big spoiler warning here for what’s not just in the post credit scenes but the entire movie and what might be coming up in future MCU films. I’m just going to be covering a lot of stuff, so just in case you haven’t seen the movie, I’ll advise you not to read this and go watch the movie.
Director James Gunn put five post credit scenes in this movie. The first of the scene shows the ravager Kraglin, wearing Yondu’s fin, whistling to control Yondu’s Yaka Arrow giving to him by Peter quill after Yondu’s sacrifice to save Peter… Yeah, Yondu died. *Warned you there’d be spoilers*
So moving on, shortly before his death, he told Peter he actually controls the Yaka Arrow with his heart, not just the fin and his whistle. That might be why we see the arrow go way off target when Kraglin tries to use it right into Drax’s chest as Kraglin backs away. This might be a funny scene but there may be a significance seeing Kraglin receive Yondu’s iconic weapon, which could imply that in the third Guardians movie, which is definitely happening… Kraglin might take over as sort the successor as the lawless but pragmatic ravager Yondu always was. Rumours also claim we might get to see Sean Gunn in the infinity war movies.
The second scene shows Sylvester Stallon’s character, “Stakar Ogord” assembling various ravager leaders to carry on Yondu’s mission and steal some sh**. Okay, so the question is, who are all these people? All these guys are originally part of the guardians in the 60’s and it’s good to see James Gunn bring them back together like this. There’s Charlie-27 played by Ving Rhames, Martinex played by Micael Rosenbaum, aka Lex Luthor from Smallville, Aleta Ogord played by Malaysian Star Michelle Yeoh, Mainframe played by Miley Cyrus and Krugarr. Notice how Krugarr harnesses mystical energy the same exact visual style as Dr Strange? That is because in the comics this character is connected to Dr Strange, who actually succeeds him as Succorer Supreme.
Stakar is an interesting character and the movie didn’t really get into his back story but in the comics, he’s known as Starhawk and his story line involves time-travel. He actually relives his life over and over again. I’m not sure if the third movie will get into all of that stuff or how much that movie will feature all of these guys but James Gunn has said he enjoyed working with Miley Cyrus even though she just has one line in this movie and he might have more in store for here character.
Moving on a little later in the post credit, things gets interesting, which seems to be my favourite scene so far. We see Aisha licking her wounds while plotting her revenge, revealing that she engineered a new being that’s the next stage of their evolution just to destroy the Guardians. Then we see this golden birthing pod, and we hear a faint heartbeat with Aisha saying “I think I shall call him Adam”.
If Adam Warlock was the first thing to come to mind after watching that scene, then yes… she’s obviously referring to Adam Warlock and this has gotten me really excited. In the comics, Adam Warlock was also referred to as Him, a genetically, perfect, super powerful being, designed by a group of scientist called “the Enclave” to be an even more perfect version of Aisha, she’s actually called her in the comics. Now it seems like Warlock’s origin is being changed so that Aisha created him. Like the superior race of the sovereign is creating an, even more, superior being.
Now Adam Warlock is an awesome character in the comics and he actually played a big role in the infinity gem story. Jame Gun actually wanted him to be in this movie but he felt that it already has plenty of other characters in this movie so he didn’t want to overcomplicate things. It also sounds like Warlock won’t be part of the Infinity War movies but might likely be introduced in the Guardians Vol.3 movie.
Just a quick thought but earlier in the film it was hinted that Aisha wanted to experiment with Peter to reproduce the old-fashioned way. And wouldn’t it be awesome to learn that it did happen and part of both Aisha and Peter’s DNA created this superior being since Peter’s the son of a celestial in this movie. That could be part of an explanation on how they could improve their already perfect genetic code. Which could set up some more interesting daddy issues, like Starlord and his son Adam Warlock?
The fourth scene might actually explain what Starlord might look like as a father figure. We see Peter bickering with Groot who has now aged to this moody teenager. Groot is growing really fast and we might see a fully formed Groot in the next movie, beyond his size in the first movie.
And the final scene shows Stan Lee rambling on with some Aliens known as the Watchers in the comic. They’re these all-seeing cosmic beings who absorbs intelligent life throughout the universe. Now it’s actually interesting to see Stan Lee hang out with the watchers because in the comics, there’s a watcher called Uatu, who’s kind of the main watcher and it’s possible that Stan Lee wrote himself into the comics as his character which could explain why we get to Lee show up in different marvel universes. He’s kind of like his own watcher in the cinematic world, which will explain how he breaks out of the MCU and then suddenly show up in a SpiderMan movie, and James Gunn actually agrees with this theory.
