According to a source from July of last year, Google is developing a “Switch to Android” software for iOS users that will allow them to effortlessly transfer their local iPhone data, such as contacts, messages, and apps, to a new Android device. It’ll be comparable to Apple’s “Move to iOS” app, which is already available on the Google Play Store. According to a fresh rumor, the dedicated data transfer software may be able to seamlessly move iCloud data to Google Photos. Let’s take a closer look at the specifics.
Google Photos will be able to import iCloud data
Google has updated its “Data Transfer Tool” app to version 1.0.430697386, according to a recent APK deconstruction report from 9to5Google. The app, as you may recall, is on the receiving end of the migration process. With this update, Apple shared further information about how its planned Switch to Android app will be able to convert iCloud photographs and videos to Google Photos seamlessly.
“To copy photographs and videos from iCloud to Google Photos, use the Switch to Android app’s instructions, or read more at g.co/transferfromicloud,” Google writes.
The announcement includes a link to a Google Photos help page that explains how to migrate iCloud data to Google Photos over several days. It’s presently uncertain whether the Switch to Android app would eliminate this multi-day procedure and make transferring iCloud photographs and videos to Google Photos easier for consumers. There’s also no word on whether the app would support local data transmission, such as contacts, messages, and other information.
Another important feature found in the latest version of the Data Transfer Tool is the ability to transfer files from iOS to Android over a wired connection. While the previous report suggested that the Switch to Android app would transfer data over Wi-Fi, the Data Transfer Tool app’s mention of a lightning cable, a USB-C cable, and a micro-USB cable suggests that users may be able to connect their iOS and Android devices using the aforementioned cables to transfer data directly from iOS to Android.
This way may make the process of transferring data from iOS to Android even easier, which is now a chore. Backing up data via Google Drive is currently the best option.
When the Switch to Android app will be available on the App Store, Google has not stated when it will be available. However, we recommend that you remain tuned for more information and share your thoughts on Google’s future iOS-Android migration app in the comments section below.
