Google has made a deeper foray into taking over businesses with new Android For Work programme. Google already has the Google Apps for Business programme for workplaces but this new move will take it even deeper into offices.
Android for Work aims to allow employees to use one single device for both work and personal uses with the two purposes clearly separated. To enable this, the company built a series or new features into the Android operating system itself and partnered with a wide range of device and enterprise software companies.
For devices running Lollipop, users have the option to create a separate profile for work that contains a separate suite of productivity apps like email, calendars and notes that support company’s policies. For example, there’s a specialized version of Chrome for work that allows companies to ensure mobile browsing is in line with their policies. Also, the IT Managers of the business can access and control the encrypted data on work profiles and tightly control what apps users can access through a new version of the Play Store called Google Play for Work.
For versions of Android earlier than Lollipop, Android For Work will be a separate app that will grant access to the features found in the Lollipop version.
