Do you have a gamepad and a modern LG television in your home or office? You may now install the Google Stadia cloud gaming platform for your TV running webOS 5.0 or 6.0 (so 2020 models or later) in any of Google’s list of 22 countries. In the LG app store, you’ll be able to download it.
A while ago, LG stated that the two: Google Stadia and Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service; would be available on its TVs in 2021. GeForce Now was in beta by the middle of November.
Before, most TVs that could run Stadia were running some version of Android TV. Now, most TVs that could run Stadia are running something else. If you have a basic account, you can try both Stadia and GeForce Now for free. However, they aren’t always the same.
When GeForce Now introduced its new RTX 3080 tier for $200 per year, people were amazed seeing that it outperformed Google Stadia. It’s true that Nvidia only streams in 4K resolution to its Shield TV set-top box, not these LG TVs. Google Stadia will be offering its full “Stadia Pro” tier to LG TVs as of today. Stadia Pro costs $10 a month, assuming you want to use it.
I am yet to test Stadia’s “4K” or Nvidia’s 1080p on the same screen, however, I’m looking forward to doing so like maybe this weekend.
Although GeForce Now allows users to bring their own games (it uses your PC library), Stadia is already offering free restricted demos of games such as Control. This could be a significant benefit for Stadia over GeForce Now.
Some platforms, like LG TVs, let you play games with your phone’s touchscreen, even though you don’t have a gamepad. A spokesperson for the company confirmed that Stadia’s bridge mode has been added to LG TVs.
