Google sets its Pixel 8 announcement event for Oct. 4

A day after Apple sent invites for the iPhone 15 event, Google Pixel fans, mark your calendars and start setting aside cash now, because yesterday, Google sent out invites to the media for its next Made By Google event, which is set for 10 a.m. ET on Oct. 4 in New York City.

The invite isn’t especially specific, and didn’t mention Google’s other hardware brands like Nest or Fitbit – those are also possibilities, but it does promise to “introduce the latest additions to our Pixel portfolio of devices.” In other words, this is where we’ll hear about the Pixel 8 for the first time, at least in an official capacity.

This comes hot off the heels of Google kinda of sort accidentally (but maybe not really) leaking the Pixel 8 Pro on the same day. It’s also on the heels of the announcement of Apple’s annual September event, where we’ll almost certainly get our first look at the iPhone 15.

Not much is known about the Pixel 8 aside from the fact that the Pro apparently looks similar to last year’s model, but rumor has it that both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will have 120Hz displays for the first time. You can also expect the usual lineup of camera and software improvements, though we’ll have to wait until the event itself to learn more.
