Google has removed the “view image” tab that appeared when you clicked on a picture, which allowed you to open the image alone. That means that users can no longer have direct access to the picture they would search for or download for later use.
It means that people will only be given the option to see the picture on the page that hosts it. That means clicking on the website and complying with its rules, rather than making it easy for people to look at only the picture.
The change is mainly meant to frustrate users. Google has long been under fire from photographers and publishers who felt that image search allowed people to steal their pictures, and the removal of the view image button is one of many changes being made in response.
Google initially said that the change had been made “to help connect users and useful websites”, and stressed that the view on page button would still be around. But it said later that the change had been made in part because of an agreement with Getty to make it harder to steal the image agency’s pictures.
“They are designed to strike a balance between serving user needs and publisher concerns, both stakeholders we value,” Google said on its “search liaison” page.
Despite the changes, users can still download pics to use later by simply saving it, then clicking on view save. After this, open view save and click on the picture you want to download and save it.
