There is a new domain in town and curiously named .ing. Google Registry has launched this new top level domain and you can register .ing domains as part of its Early Access Period (EAP) for “an additional one-time fee”. We, at Innovation Village, tried some of the domain and they are expensive. We tried requesting for different words from GoDaddy’s domain search to see what .ing domains are available. Think.ing, buy.ing are going for £32, 046/yr, £106,820.04/yr respectively but some are cheap such as bett.ing for £3,204.59/yr
According to Christina Yeh from the Google Registry team in a blog post, this fee will go down daily through December 5th. At 17:00 WAT (16:00 UTC) on the same date, .ing domains will officially be publicly available.
A top-level domain (TLD) is the last segment of a domain name or the part that follows immediately after the “dot” symbol. TLDs are mainly classified into two categories: generic TLDs (gTLDs) such as .com, .org, .net and country-code TLDs (ccTLDs) like .ng, .us, .uk
However, some companies such as Canva have already bought design.ing and draw.ing; Adobe Acrobat bought edit.ing and sign.ing.
According to a post from August this year, Google Registry is also working on a .meme top-level domain. Currently, .meme is in a limited registration period, per a schedule on that post. Early access to .meme is set to open up on November 28th, and the domain will be available for anyone to register beginning December 5th.
