While Google unexpectedly previewed the Pixel Tablet at its recent I/O 2022 event, the tech giant did not reveal any details about the tablet’s specs or features, other than to say that it will be powered by the Google Tensor processor and will be available next year. However, a recent leak reveals some facts about the Pixel Tablet, including the possibility that it would feature a USI-backed stylus. Take a look at the information provided below.
Details about the New Pixel Tablet Have Surfaced
According to a recent report by NuGiz, Google’s unnamed tablet gadget, codenamed “Tangor,” was recently spotted on the official Universal Stylus Initiative (USI) website. Despite the fact that the listing does not specifically mention the Pixel Tablet, the gadget is identified as a tablet in the “Model” section.
What the Website Shows
The USI website includes all of the devices that have been certified as being compliant with the USI standard, whether it’s a Chromebook, a tablet, or a 2-in-1 device. As a result, Google’s next tablet appears to be certified to work with a USI-backed stylus. This could let users to utilize third-party styli to write, sketch, draw, and take notes on the Pixel Tablet. They may be able to charge the pen by magnetically attaching it to the device’s back. Perhaps it will be able to charge via USB Type-C.
For those unfamiliar, USI is a global program that promotes industry-wide stylus standardization. The project began in 2015 with the goal of developing a standard specification for an active stylus. The USI 2.0 standard was launched earlier this year, with the headline feature being NFC-based wireless charging for styli. Google has integrated support for the USI standard to Chrome OS as part of the program.
There is presently no more information available about this development. It’s also unclear whether Google will include or sell a stylus with the Pixel Tablet.
More Pixel Tablet rumors suggest that it will include smart display capabilities similar to those found in Google’s Nest Hub devices. However, these details aren’t official, so it’s best to wait until Google makes an announcement.
The Pixel 6 series, as expected, comes with a custom-designed Google Tensor chip developed in partnership with Samsung. Google has entered the smartphone chipset fight against Apple and Qualcomm with the launch of its first-ever bespoke silicon.
The Universal Stylus Initiative (USI), an initiative that encourages stylus standardization in the industry, has announced its USI 2.0 open stylus standard for companies to add better stylus functionalities. That means Chromebooks will soon support better drawing and writing capabilities. Here’s a look at what new features it brings.
