Of late, Google Photos has been getting small but very useful changes. In the latest update to the web version, Google Photos now shows a listing of what quality the photo is being backed up at.
Previously, the web version for Google Photos contained information such as “Uploaded from” and “Shared By” on the web, but now there’s a new “Backed up” section.
As noted in its report on Tuesday, July 19th, 9to5Google explains the section starts by listing what quality – “Original quality” or “Storage saver” – a picture was uploaded to Google Photos as.
It will note if “this item doesn’t take up space in your account storage” due to the old High quality option or because you used an early Pixel phone.
Otherwise, Photos will list the backup size, which has been moved from the Info pane’s third section. In fact, Google no longer shows file size for content that doesn’t consume storage space.
The new section also provides a lot of new information about uploaded photos. This includes details such as date/date, location, device, EXIF and file date.
In case you don’t know, Google previously offered unlimited cloud storage for high-definition photo backups. But in 2021, the company changed its storage policy so that each backup now counts towards 15 GB of free cloud storage.
Because this is a web-only option, it’s not available on the Android and iOS versions of Google Photos.
This update is currently being rolled out in stages and is known to be available only to a limited number of users. Also, there is no information on when Google will bring this new feature to more users.
