Google Pay is without a doubt one of the most popular and simple-to-use UPI payment tools. To make things even easier for you, Google Pay has added the “tap to pay” feature, which eliminates the need to scan QR codes in order to make UPI payments.
The “Tap to Pay” feature of Google Pay has been launched
The new “Tap to Pay” feature was developed in collaboration with Pine Labs and will operate with Pine Labs POS (Point-of-Sale) machines as well as NFC-enabled Android handsets. The new Google Pay functionality will work similarly to how you can make payments at a POS machine by tapping your compatible cards instead of putting in the PIN number.
The difference is that you can now do it with your smartphone’s Google Pay app.
“Tap to Pay for UPI has deep ramifications for high-traffic retail outlets, with queue management issues likely to be greatly reduced, and taking digital payments at POS well beyond cards,” stated Sajith Sivanandan, Business Head Google Pay and Next Billion User projects, Google APAC. We’re very delighted to collaborate with Pine Labs to bring this first-ever invention to India.” For those who don’t know, Google Pay’s “Tap to Pay” was first presented as a prototype program at Reliance Retail. It’s now available at additional stores, including Starbucks.
To use “Tap to Pay,” all you have to do is tap your phone on the POS terminal, enter your UPI PIN when requested, and you’re done. The goal is to make the procedure considerably more straightforward and efficient.
One thing to keep in mind is that you’ll need an NFC-enabled Android smartphone to use this Google Pay feature. Because NFC-enabled phones aren’t normally in the low price bracket in India, this could be a disadvantage for many. This is, after all, the price range on which Indians rely the most. There’s also no information on when this feature will be available to iOS users.
