Google News Initiative (GNI) Innovation Challenge is now accepting submissions from news organisations in Africa, the Middle East and Turkey.
Eligible projects should address reader engagement and explore new business models in the form of subscriptions, membership programs and any others.
Eligibility also extends to traditional publishers, news startups and associations aiming to build innovative digital media projects.
Selected projects will be vetted by a panel and will subsequently receive up-to US$150,000 in funding, for up to 70 per cent of the total project cost.
The application period is open up to mid-night of September 2nd 2019. If interested you can get more information and apply on the GNI website, or directly reach out to the GNI Project team via this email.
On July 3rd, the GNI Project team will be holding a webinar session to answer any questions and provide additional information on the challenge.
In 2018, Google announced the GNI as the global umbrella that pulls together everything Google does to help news players in their transition to a digital future.
