Google has just launched today the ‘Family Store’, a special section for children and parents in the Google Play Store. This was announced at the developers conference held at San Francisco. With this dedicated store, You can drill down to apps by age — like apps for kids aged 9-12 and those for kids aged 6-8, as Google Play product manager Ellie Powers said onstage.
You can also view dedicated pages for popular characters and kids’ franchises, so if your child is obsessed with Peppa Pig or Star Wars, you’ll be able to see all the offerings of every content type in one place.
In the previous month, Google launched the Google’s Play designed for families program with app developers designing apps which are kid-friendly and worthy of an ESRB(Entertainment Software Rating Board) Everyone or Everyone 10+ rating, or an equivalent rating.
The new section features plenty of new content, including Crayola DJ, Cutie Patootie, Thomas’s Musical Day for Percy, and Doozers-Play Along Stories.
Google’s plans to update Google Play to attract families is part of its broader strategy to personalize the experience on its Google Play app store. It also underscores not only how influential Google has become in making software but the company’s growing role in who it reaches as well. With over a million apps in the Play Store which can reach as many as a billion people, the choices Google makes can dramatically change how people use a smartphone or tablet.
