Google has introduced Nano Banana Pro, a major upgrade to its image generation technology, bringing enhanced editing tools, sharper resolutions, improved text accuracy, and even built-in web search. The model is powered by Gemini 3, the company’s latest large language model released earlier this week.
Nano Banana Pro builds on the earlier Nano Banana model with the ability to produce more detailed visuals, better text rendering, and support for different writing styles, fonts, and languages.
Richer Controls and Higher-Quality Images
Google designed Nano Banana Pro to give professionals significantly more creative control. Users can now fine-tune:
- Camera angles
- Scene lighting
- Depth of field
- Focus
- Color grading
Resolution capabilities have also been pushed further. While the previous model maxed out at 1024 × 1024px, the new version allows 2K and 4K image generation.
However, these upgrades come with higher costs and slower processing times. A single 1080p or 2K image costs $0.139, while a 4K generation costs $0.24, compared to $0.039 for Nano Banana’s 1024px images.
Improved Multi-Image and Character Consistency
Nano Banana Pro can now use up to six high-fidelity reference shots or integrate up to 14 objects into a single image. It also maintains stronger consistency for up to five human subjects, making it more reliable for scenes requiring continuity.
Google has released a demo app showcasing these new capabilities.
Integration Across Google’s Ecosystem
The upgraded model is being rolled out across Google’s major AI products:
- The Gemini app will now default to Nano Banana Pro, with limited free-tier usage before reverting to the older model.
- AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers get higher generation limits and access through Notebook LM.
- In the U.S., AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can use the model directly in Google Search’s AI mode.
- Ultra users get access in Google’s video tool, Flow.
- Workspace customers can use the model in Google Slides and Vids.
- Developers can access it via the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, and the new Antigravity IDE.
Strengthening Content Authenticity with SynthID
Google is embedding SynthID, its AI watermarking and detection technology, into the Gemini app. Users can upload an image to check whether it was generated or edited using Google’s AI models. Over time, the company plans to add support for C2PA content credentials, enhancing verification and transparency.
With Nano Banana Pro, Google is positioning itself more aggressively in the competitive generative AI space, offering deeper control, higher fidelity content, and stronger safeguards for digital authenticity.
