Google has begun a total redesign Google+ due to the fact that the social network hasn’t lived up to its full potential but the company isn’t giving up on the platform by focusing on the platform’s Collections and Communities.
Google+ was launched in 2011 with over 2 billion users, well, that’s because everyone with a Google account automatically gets their own Google+ page but according to an estimation by Stone Temple in April, 90% of Google+ users have never posted anything on the social network. The consulting agency estimated that Google+ had around 212 million active users.
Google has been listening to what users of the platform had to say, and concluded that with the new overhaul, Collections and Communities would be put front and centre, making the social network more about shared hobbies than Facebook-like interactions with friends.
Though the redesigned version is currently in beta mode but will be available in its complete form on both web and mobile platforms soon, but Google is currently allowing users to opt-into the new design on the web.
