Google appears to be developing a feature that allows you to “Play” a game directly from search results. When you search for a video game, Google’s search results will contain a “Play” button that will instantly launch the game.
Before now, if you search for a game the result displays details about it and links to various storefronts and retailers wherein the game would be available. Google is now expanding this feature slightly such that users will be able to play games directly from Google.
Bryant Chappel of The Nerf Report, spotted this initially, and (in a video) proved that this is true. “Search for game. Find game. Play game instantly via Cloud Gaming,” Bryant said in a follow-up tweet.
It appears that Google Search has “Play” button to launch games on Google Stadia, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, and Nvidia GeForce, among other services.
You’ll still need to be logged in to each service to launch into them from search results. If you aren’t, clicking the respective ‘Play’ button will send you to a sign-up page.
The options to launch cloud gaming in search results aren’t appearing for everyone, so Google could be testing it for select users. Some who saw the buttons earlier may no longer see those options, The Verge reported, suggesting Google is actively changing access.
It is worth noting that Google hasn’t formally rolled out this functionality to all users yet. So, not all users can access it yet. However, it should be available to more users in the coming days.
For many years, Google Search has served as a service aggregator. For instance, searching for a TV show or movie on Google Search, displays all the information about it. Along with that, it would point you in the direction of the streaming sites.
This seems to be what the Tech Giant is now extending to cloud gaming platforms.
