Nowadays, people go to Google Search for news and updates and Google search provides every answer to each and every question. Recently, the company is adding a new “full coverage” feature to Google search. It will allow the users to get a more comprehensive context to new stories.
Google announced it is bringing the “Full Coverage” feature you can find in Google News directly to Google Search. The company said it is “now bringing Full Coverage to Search, making it easier for more people to explore all aspects of a story from a variety of perspectives.”
Google’s “Full Coverage” feature was first introduced back in 2018 as part of Google News. It lets users explore top news, local headlines, in-depth pieces, explainers, interviews, and more with simply a tap around a developing news story.
The details were published in a Google blog post by Itamar Snir, Product Manager, Google News.
“When you’re searching for information on a timely topic, you see a carousel of articles at the top of your Search results highlighting relevant news. Now for big, developing news stories, you can tap into a Full Coverage page after scrolling to the end of the top stories carousel or by selecting ‘More news on…’ right below the carousel,” explains Snir.
Furthermore, with this new addition of full coverage to Google Search, Snir states that Google is introducing new technology that is also able to detect long-running news stories that run for days to ones that run for weeks and even months.
Google will then organize the ‘full coverage’ page to help people easily spot top news and other extra content like explainers and local coverage to help people get better insights around complex stories with a lot of background.
Google’s “Full Coverage” in Search is now available on mobile devices, beginning with English in the U.S. The feature will be rolled out in more languages and locations in the future.
