Yesterday, Innovation Village reported that the Taiwan government had banned the use of Zoom in the conduct of its business and activities.
Google has also issued a ban on the use of the platform for its employees citing security concerns with the app that has seen a spike in usage lately because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Google had sent emails to its employees last week informing them of the ban. In the email, the company told its employees that the Zoom app would no longer function on their Google-provided machines.
It is worth noting that Google offers its enterprise Zoom competitor called Meet as part of its G Suite offering.
Google spokesperson Jose Castaneda said, “We have long had a policy of not allowing employees to use unapproved apps for work that are outside of our corporate network.
“Recently, our security team informed employees using Zoom Desktop Client that it will no longer run on corporate computers as it does not meet our security standards for apps used by our employees. Employees who have been using Zoom to stay in touch with family and friends can continue to do so through a web browser or via mobile.”
