Google has officially launched AI Mode in Search for users in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa. This innovative feature is designed to transform how people interact with search results by delivering more intuitive, comprehensive, and helpful responses.

The rollout begins today, and AI Mode will appear as a new tab on the Search results page as well as within the Google app for Android and iOS.

Powered by a custom version of Google’s latest Gemini 2.5 model, AI Mode brings advanced reasoning and contextual understanding to Search. “We’re incredibly excited to bring AI Mode to our users in the region,” said Alex Okosi, Managing Director, Google Africa.

“We know that people here are curious and often have complex questions—whether it’s planning a trip or exploring a new concept. With AI Mode, Google is reimagining the Search experience. Users will not only find the information they need more easily but also be empowered to explore a wider range of content from across the web,” Okosi added.

The rollout marks a new era in how users engage with Google Search, introducing advanced reasoning, multimodal inputs, and more intuitive topic exploration.

    What is AI Mode?

AI Mode is a new feature in Google Search that leverages the Gemini 2.5 model to deliver advanced reasoning and contextual understanding. It enables users to ask complex, multi-part questions and receive detailed, well-structured responses tailored to their needs.

    Key Features of AI Mode

    • Advanced Reasoning: Uses a query fan-out technique to break down complex questions into subtopics and run multiple searches simultaneously.
    • Multimodal Inputs: Accepts text, voice, or image queries, making it easier to interact and get relevant results.
    • Deeper Exploration: Provides follow-up questions, helpful web links, and related content to enhance topic discovery.
    • Reliable Results: Prioritizes high-quality content while ensuring users can click through for more information.

    Benefits for Users

    • Improved Search Experience: Enables nuanced, exploratory questions that previously required multiple searches.
    • Increased Productivity: Helps users find accurate information faster, saving time and effort.
    • Enhanced Discovery: Broadens perspectives by surfacing diverse, high-quality content and insights.

    Availability and Future Development

    • Rollout: Currently available in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa via Search tabs and the Google app on Android and iOS.
    • Future Development: Planned updates include more visual responses (images and videos), richer formatting, and new ways to surface helpful content.

    Conclusion

Google’s launch of AI Mode in Search is a milestone for users in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa. By delivering more intuitive, comprehensive, and context-aware results, it promises to reshape how people interact with online information. As Google continues to refine the feature, users can expect even more innovative tools to explore, learn, and discover.
