Google’s Google Cloud division yesterday announced its plans to acquire cloud storage company, Elastifile.
The price tag for this latest acquisition has yet to be announced, however, the deal is set to fully close further along in the year.
Google Cloud came under new management last year in November, with new CEO Thomas Kurian taking the reigns from former Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene.
Kurian has breathed new life into Google Cloud, which has in the recent past lagged behind other major players in the cloud space, among them Amazon and Microsoft.
A report by Canalys said that at the end of 2018, Google held 7.6% of the cloud services market share, a paltry figure when compared to Amazon’s 32% and Microsoft’s 13.7%.
Within the six months Kurian has been CEO, Google Cloud has also announced the acquisition of data analytics company Lookey, for USD 2.6 Billion.
Google said that new acquisition, Elastifile, will be integrated with Google Cloud Filestore, to allow for broader computing and storage capabilities.
