We first saw a redesigned Security & Privacy shortcut in Quick Settings with Android 13 DP2, which combined the camera, microphone, and location toggles into one single place. Along with these options, there was an option to go into Android’s Security menu. With this year’s update, we’re getting a look at what might happen to that primary hub.
Google Testing Security & Privacy Menu
These screenshots were provided by Esper.io’s Mishaal Rahman, who released images of a revamp for Android’s Security settings that is presently being evaluated. Security & Privacy has been added to this new menu, which matches the DP2 Quick Settings shortcut that was discovered last month. It wouldn’t be the first time Google merged two comparable submenus into a single item to conserve space, but it would be the first major update to the Android 13 settings menu.
Based on this single screenshot of the menu, it appears to be mostly displaying information from Android 12’s existing Security panel. Option for app security, Find My Device, and security updates are all provided here, in addition to the security checkup grid at the top. There isn’t an option to go straight to the Privacy dashboard, though it’s probably higher down the list. According to Rahman, the redesigned menu isn’t fully functional, so there could be more modifications in the future that move the privacy dashboard closer to the top of the page.
With Android 13’s first beta, which should be released any day now based on Google’s public roadmap, we may get a new look at this menu. Meanwhile, Google I/O is less than a month away, and we’ll almost certainly get a lot more detailed look at this year’s Android upgrades.
